Studied Tokiwazu-bushi under his father, Tokiwazu Mojizo I, as well as Tokiwazu Mojibee IV and Tokiwazu Kikusaburō
Studied Nagauta Shamisen under Yoshiko Tajima and Nagauta under Ken Minagawa
Withdrew from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music
Studied musicology under Fumio Koizumi and studied Itchu-bushi under Miyako Itchu XI

  • 1981: Assumed the name Tokiwazu Mojizo II
  • 1985: Received first Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Award
  • 1986: Promoted to principal shamisen player of Tokiwazu-bushi at the Kabuki-za Theater
  • 1990: Received Seieikai Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Encouragement Award
  • 1991: Assumed the name Miyako Itchu XII and succeeded to head of the Itchu-bushi school
  • 1999: Recognized as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property for Itchu-bushi (General Certification)
  • 2008: Recognized as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property for Tokiwazu-bushi (General Certification)
  • 2014: Awarded Japan Art Academy Prize
  • 2023: Recognized as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property for Nihon Buyo (General Certification)
